What to wear to a quinceanera?

i am going to my first one in a couple of weeks, for my friend. there is a religious ceremony in the morning, and in the afternoon there will be a banquet type of thing and a long dance. what kind of dress should i wear? formal or semi-formal? short or long? also, what kind of music and dancing takes place?
