Jdm prelude transmission -> usdm motor?
It's the SportShift parts that make it incompatible. There are far more electronics involved with the SportShift, than there are for a regular automatic transmission. Basically, you're going to need another '97-'01 USDM automatic Prelude transmission. Your mechanic is correct.
