What is the difference between hyperthreading/hypertransport/… stepping/dual-core processing?

Dual core there is no "fooling", it is two processors, just inside a single physical package. Speed stepping is a power management system where the CPU lowers its clock speed. The idea is to save energy and make less heat when the chip isn't being used very much (which is most of the time). Heat is bad for electronics.
