How can my child possibly need over $300 worth of school supplies? Are they making us supply other kids now?

I only buy for my daughter-I agree-if the school came out and said"some kids need help" I would gladly do so,but do not just lie about it.I but my daughter her basic supplies and keep them at home,she tells me when she runs out of something and I send it with her.I should not have to buy for everyone unwillingly.
